Principal Leadership Integrity in the Sustainability of the Adiwiyata Program: A Systematic Literature Review

This study addresses the critical challenge of program stagnation in the Adiwiyata (Green School) initiative, situating the inquiry within the discipline of educational leadership. It aims to deconstruct the role of principal integrity in fostering sustainable pro-environmental behaviors, moving beyond just administrative compliance. Employing a Systematic Literature Review (SLR) guided by the PRISMA 2020 protocol, the research analyzed 37 high-impact articles published between 2020 and 2026. The findings reveal a fundamental paradigm shift from technical management to value-based leadership, identifying Moral Potency as a core determinant. Specifically, integrity operates through two distinct psychological mechanisms: creating Psychological Safety for teacher innovation and facilitating Social Learning for student value internalization. A significant contribution to this work is the proposal of the Eco-Integrity Leadership Model, which posits that environmental sustainability relies more on the ethical consistency of leaders than on physical infrastructure. Consequently, these results emphasize the necessity for educational policymakers to reform principal recruitment by prioritizing ecological integrity, thereby ensuring that environmental education evolves from symbolic gestures into authentic character development.
